If you are a lover of pilgrimages and the spiritual atmosphere that reigns in a church, you cannot miss the Tour of the Churches and Basilicas of Rome. You can choose a short 3-hour tour, where we will visit the great Patriarchal Basilicas now converted to Papal Basilicas by Benedict XVI, when he renounced the title of Patriarch of the West.
We will visit Santa Maria Maggiore and its spectacular mosaics ranging from 5th century AD mosaics to XIII century ones. It will be possible to discover the relics and all the treasures the Basilica contains. From here we will move to one of the other Papal or Major Basilicas, San Giovanni in Laterano, the mother church of the Christian religion and therefore the seat of the Bishop of Rome that, by tradition, is the Pope himself.
You can also visit the Holy Stairs (adjacent to the Basilica of San Giovanni in Laterano) which, according to the Christian tradition, is the staircase used by Jesus before being judged by Pontius Pilate. Alternatively, you can choose to admire the monumentality of the Basilica of San Paolo outside the wall, the second largest major basilica after San Pietro in Vaticano.
If the short tour is not enough for you and you want to visit all the main churches and basilicas of Rome, it will be possible to extend the guided tour to 6 hours, allowing to extend the visit to the Basilica of Santa Croce in Gerusalemme which contains the relics of the Passion of Christ, and the Basilica of San Lorenzo outside the wall, the church symbol of the protomartyr Lorenzo but also of the patriarchate of Jerusalem and the Holy Sepulcher.
